Start of Our Silver Season

I know it seems like a long time, but I cannot wait to start back up again. I hope that we can make our “Silver” season one to remember. I plan on returning to some of our favorite venues plus maybe a new one or two along the way. If you are interested in joining us it is not too late! Rehearsals start up on September 13th at Talawanda Middle School at 7:00 PM. I hope you to see you there for a great season ahead!

In Memoriam: George Goodell

The Oxford Community Band members are deeply saddened at the death of George Goodell, one of our most-beloved members, who passed away in May 2011. George was a member of the band for 23 years, since its founding in 1987. In that time George played trumpet and served in many leadership capacities. He was instrumental in acquiring nonprofit status for the band and was Fundraising Coordinator, a member of the Advisory Committee, and the band’s Treasurer for many years. George was a veteran of Word War II, a professor of Finance at Miami University, a member of Oxford Kiwanis, and a civic leader in many areas. Our condolences go out to George’s wife, Anne, and the rest of his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Busy Summer

Hello everyone! We have been keeping up with our theme this season of being busy. We have two performances coming up this weekend one in Brookville and another in Hanover Township. Friday night we are being sponsered by the Franklin County Arts Council and we thank them for inviting us back to play for the fine people of Brookville. Saturday, May 21 we are playing for a Marine Memorial dedication which is a great honor. We hope to see you out and about this weekend with us!

Returning to Oxford Senior Center

We have been keeping ourselves really busy over the months. That has been our theme this season. We just had a performance 3 weeks ago at the Knolls retirement community and now we are having a performance at the Oxford Senior Center. We haven’t been there for quite some time and are excited to be back there. I hope you we come out to see us as we gear up for the summer.

Gearing up for the Spring

We are continuing staying busy just like the fall. We have a few concerts coming up with a great repertoire to perform. We are going to return to the Knolls retirement community and are working on a performance at the Oxford Senior Center. Check out the concert tab to for the most up to date concert information.

Getting Ready for the Spring

Well we have been very busy up to the holidays having 3 performances in 3 months. I hope that the second half of our season is just as busy. We have plans on hitting up our favorite places such as the Knolls and Berkley Square where we are always welcomed by residents. If you want to join our group we are always accepting musicians of all ages and abilities. We are meeting at 7PM on January 18, 2011 at Talawanda Middle School. It is a great way to play and meet people. I hope to see a lot of you either at a rehearsal or at a performance in the near future.

If you wondering about some of our musical selection. We are going to play An Original Suite by Gordan Jacobs, Mapel Leaf Rag by Scott Joplin, and a medley of some Big Band favorites just to name a few. Come on out on the 18th of January even if you haven’t played in 20+ years.

November Noël

Hello everyone! I want to let you know that the Oxford Community Band will be performing at Brookville, Indiana’s November Noël on Friday, November 19th. Come kick off the Christmas season early by listen to us play some of your favorite Christmas Carols and sing along too. We are excited to be there and to help ring in the Christmas season. Then in two weeks we will be back in Oxford to help ring in the Christmas Spirit there too. Come out and support the Oxford Community Band.

OCB’s 24th Season Starting off Busier Than Ever

We are still around for another fantastic season of music making. I want to say we have enjoy the past month and hope to see a lot of you in the future at our performances. s event. I have to say the community was very welcoming, and we enjoyed being there which is part of the reason we will be there next month for the November Noel on November 19th.

We will playing a mixture of things at this upcoming event so come on out and I hope to see a lot of you there singing along to your favorite Christmas Carols.

Reily and Fouth of July Concerts

We had great success at our last two concerts. The Reily Township concert had a heart warming crowd that made us feel very welcome to celebrate their bicentennial. Plus or annual outing to uptown Oxford for the Fourth of July celebration is always great. If you any one has ideas for us to perform at in a community near you please let us know. We take all places into consideration. Come out and support us in the future!

Knolls Success

The Knolls concert was a success!!! Thanks to all of you that made it possible. Now we are preparing for our summer concerts. Our next one is June 19, 2010 at Reily Townships Bicentennial Celebration. We will be playing a lot of patriotic music plus a few tunes from the Knolls concert. So please come out and support us! There is always room for you if you play an instrument and want to continue to play or just get back in the swing of it. Our next rehearsal will be in a couple of weeks.
